"red dot" Design Award

Since 1955 the Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia has been marking outstanding international product designs with its famous red dot. In 2000, the Design Innovations, then the name of the competition, received their new, international name: 'red dot award: product design'. Producers and designers of the most different industrial products can submit their entries for the popular 'red dot' award in twelve product groups all year round.
With more than 5,000 entries from more than 40 countries, the 'red dot' design award is among the largest design competitions worldwide. The competition consists of three categories, namely product design, communication design and design concept for which entries are invited and judged independently. The desired trophy is the 'red dot' -- the international seal of approval for design quality.
However, the 'red dot' represents much more than just a competition. If you have been awarded a 'red dot' you are among the elite in design and business.
Products with a 'red dot' epitomize highest design quality. Ever since 1955 when the international 'Design Innovations' competition was launched, the prizes have been awarded each year by the Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia. A jury judges several criteria, such as degree of innovation, ergonomics, formal quality and environmental friendliness.
